Hi Philip

Is the Pektron alarm system on your futures list?

Thanks
James

I would need access to a car with a Pektron unit, or a spare ECU.

Yes I have a Pektron unit from a V6 45. The next challenge is get it to power up on the bench.

I hope this unit is not armed as othervise I do not think you will be able to speak with it. Did you took multiplugs with pigtails of wire as it would be much easier that way?

I wonder if you have pinout of connectors on this unit? If not maybe I can be of help?

No I don't have the multiplugs, but I do have a matching remote fob.

I think that I already have the wiring diagrams too. If not I will be in touch.

Any news on the Pektron alarms? At present all '04 onwards cars with these annoying fobs can't be programmed. Mind you as far as I know there is no way to program a fob to a '04+ car unless you have the fob and its barcode? So if you get a spare fob form a second hand car it's basically worthless? If there was a way to extract the barcode from it that woudl be amazing, but I suspect not!

They actually started the Pektron on 53 plated mgtf's, I've a couple of TF's one a 03 with Lucas and the other a 53 with Pektron.......just one fob with the 53 plated one so would be interested in developments as would like to get another fob programmed for the "just in case" situations

Yep - Mine's a '53 with Pektron but I think 'officially' it was launched '04 - typical Rover parts bin stuff... They most likely ran out of Lucas alarms before the official launch and just started using them LOL

Would be great to get them programmable as part of the Pscan unit software though.

It's nearly ready.

All of the features work, except that I need to add a way of entering the bar code for a new fob (this is just a case of changing the GUI, which is harder than you might think).
The code was all developed on an MG ZR and so I need to find a local MGF/TF to test on.

Things are crazy busy at work so I might have to finish this over the Christmas holidays.

Thx for info ! :)

Great news !!!
I waited with the purchase for this functionality
There is a problem with access to T4 in Poland, and thanks to the interface, I will be able to diagnose most of the faults myself.
So after New Year and Christmas shopping and parcel fever I'll make an order for diagnostic interface :)

Hi Philip,

I have all of the various versions of the SCU here, including the 315MHz versions
used in vehicles for export markets and one development unit that was fitted to
the MG SV.

I will gladly offer to test the software for compatibility if you want.

I have made release 041B available on an EXPERIMENTAL basis for the Pektron.

This has only so far been tested on a ZR, which I no longer have access to.

Viewing live data should be safe.
Using the actuators feature should be safe.
Using the key fob sync feature should be considered unsafe.
Using the program key fob feature should be considered unsafe.

If you use this release and something goes wrong we cannot be responsible for this.

It is difficult to test this software properly without access to vehicles, and a big pile of brand new fobs (with bar codes).

If anyone really wants to try this then I would advise:-
having the car in a place were it can stay if something goes wrong
having a strategy to fix it if something goes wrong, such as access to a T4
Fortunately we have Technozen to fix any broken Pektron units
If anyone wants to test this out they can also arrange a visit with me as I have a T4 to rescue the situation if something bad happens.

As a last resort you can use the vehicle using the EKA if all your fobs die. Make sure that you know what it is and test that you can use it.

Hi Phillip,

I have just completed the update. I just want to view the data from my MGTF 160 2002. So do I just click on the Immobolizer button and look. Is that with the ignition turned on or can I start the engine too? Not in a hurry to go and look as we are getting hammered with heat here in Oz.

Peter.

Under the alarm/immobiliser menu there used to be only 5AS, now there is 5AS and Pektron.

You can only connect to the Pektron if the alarm is off. If the alarm LED is on, then it won't talk to the diagnostic tool.

So, you can either just turn off the alarm and switch on the ignition, or you can start the engine.

This is one of the reasons why fob synchronisation is a bit dangerous on the Pektron. If you have no working fobs then the Pektron will not easily come out of the "alarm on" state, and so the diagnostic tool will not talk to it. The only solution to this is to unlock the alarm using the EKA code with the key in the door. You can only do this if you know the EKA.

For this reason is it absolutely critical that you know the EKA, and that you have verified that you can disable the alarm using just the key and the EKA, with no working fobs.

So, if you have a working fob the absolute first thing you should do is log into the Pektron and find the menu which displays the EKA, then write it down, then check that you can actually unlock the car and start the engine using nothing but the key and the code.

This significantly de-risks the whole process because if you have a working EKA then at least pscan or a T4 can get back in to fix your fobs.

I tried out the EKA on the 2003 ZR with Pektron and from memory this is what I did:-

1. Lock the car so that the alarm is on, alarm LED on etc.
Remove the fob from your key ring and put somewhere out of radio range of the car; you want to prove that you can do this with just the key.
2. Put the key in the drivers door lock.
3. Turn the key to "lock" and hold it in "lock" for five seconds. This will cause the alarm to go off but just ignore it.
4. Enter the first digit of the EKA by turning the key to "unlock" that number of times.
So if the EKA is 4321 you turn the key from the centre to unlock and back to centre, 4 times.
5. Enter the second digit of the EKA by turning the key to "lock" that number of times.
So if the EKA is 4321 you turn the key from the centre to lock and back to centre, 3 times.
6. Enter the third digit of the EKA by turning the key to "unlock" that number of times.
So if the EKA is 4321 you turn the key from the centre to unlock and back to centre, 2 times.
5. Enter the fourth digit of the EKA by turning the key to "lock" that number of times.
So if the EKA is 4321 you turn the key from the centre to lock and back to centre, once.
6. The alarm LED now goes out.
7. Wait five minutes, but not more than ten minutes.
8. Unlock the lock, open door and start engine.

With the car in this state, so unimmobilised using only the EKA, no fobs anywhere near it, and engine running, pscan should be able to log into the Pektron and access all of the functions including fob synchronisation and new fob programming.

This is the safe way to do it because you know even if something goes wrong and all the fobs become unusable, at least you can a: drive the car and b: get back in with pscan or a T4 to sort out the fobs.

I hope that this is clear because it is important.

Hi Philip,

this is fantastic news, I knew it was worth the wait! My TF is currently hibernating but I will get to it asap to check it out!

Many, many thanks and keep up the good work. If you need any help, please let me know.

No issues with programming fobs.

I have programmed four fobs to five different SCU's, a mixture of 433MHz YWC001540 and YWC001541 versions without
any problems.

The actuator tests work fine except for the heated rear window test which when initialised pulses the starter motor
relay, this happens on both versions.

Can confirm that the fob programming to a YWC001551 version (315MHz frequency used for some export markets)
works without any problems.

I have looked again at the heated rear windows situation.

The T4 software that I have definitely say Heated Rear Window when it is sending the same packets at pscan.
Also when I was testing this on Rob's ZR I have no recollection of the starter motor turning.

His car was a I think a 2003 ZR so one of the first with a Pektron.

Is there any possibility that an early ZR has a different Pektron or different wiring to later models?

Having the starter motor operate when someone isn't expecting it does seem like a bit of a safety hazard.

Can anyone other than Technozen try the force output features and see if hitting Heated Rear Windows does actually operate the starter (obviously with the car in neutral and noone having their hands near engine pulleys or anything)?

Also if anyone has wiring diagrams for how the Pektron is hooked up to an early ZR it would be interesting to see if they are different.

Philip, if you need the ZR again, let me know ;)

I haven't yet had a chance to take the cylinder head to determine the damage, so it remains moveable, but might need some air adding to the tyres again!

The SCU starter motor relay and heated rear window relay circuits are the same across all models and SCU versions.

There is no possibility of someone operating their starter motor inadvertently, the SCU provides a ground connection for the relay coil
and you would have to turn the ignition key to the crank position at the same time to provide the relay with a 12 volt supply..

If someone else tries the actuator test to see if the HRW relay operates.

It is also quite possibly a bug in the T4 tool which I have replicated into pscan

Tried a couple of things on the actuator option today, was seeing if i could find an option to turn off the speed locking or the auto locking after a certain time if the doors have not been opened.
Pressed the lock button on the screen and the doors locked also tried a couple of the other things.
Is there an option somewhere to change the settings i mentioned. I find it annoying that as soon as i get the car out of the garage it locks, the button on the dash sometimes works, but otherwise have to turn the car off.

X part vospers is still there but do cost a bit as they only seem to have one guy trained on the t4 system.

Posted a question on Feb 09 re trying to find an option to turn off the speed locking or the auto locking after a certain time if the doors have not been opened.
I know that T4 can do it but could not find it via pscan, cheers

That feature has not been implemented. I only had access to a Pektron car for a limited time and it was a mad rush to achieve what was done.

If someone wants these things changed and can arrange a visit in Ruislip then I can put their car on our T4 and do it, and at the same time reverse engineer how it works for inclusion into the product.
