Software download and installation instructions for Mac OS X

NOTE: The software is currently tested on OSX 10.6.3 to 10.13.6. We do not have a Mac capable of running 10.14 or 10.15 and cannot fully support customers using Mojave or Catalina at this time; however we do have existing customers successfully running pscan on Mojave and Catalina. OSX 10.6.1 is known to NOT work. Please refer to the support forum for the latest status.

Step 1: Device driver (older than 10.9 only)

From MAC OS X 10.9 Apple introduced their own driver; so for 10.9 and later the FTDI driver is not necessary and should not be installed.

For Mac OS X lower than 10.9: FTDI VCP driver, follow the instructions on the FTDI website to download and install the FTDI VCP driver.

Step 2: X11 server

Older versions of Mac OS X included an X server. New ones do not and you will have to install one.

In Finder go to Applications then Utilities then X11.

If an X server application launches, and you can run xterm, then you can move on to the next step.

If you get a webpage telling you about Xquartz then you need to download and install Xquartz as instructed on the webpage. You can download Xquartz from here.

Step 3: Download and unpack the pscan software

In Safari click on the link below. It should download a disk image, and open it.

Download this file: pscan.uk.dmg

Inside the disk image is a folder called pscan.uk. Drag the entire folder into Applications.

The instructions below will only work if the pscan.uk folder from inside the above disk image is copied to the Applications folder in Finder.

Step 4: Run the software

NOTE: Your computer will need to be connected to the internet connection the first time that you run the software.

Start X11.

When X11 is running:

Go to the menu at the top and select Applications then Customize.
Click Add Item
In the new row that appears under the Name column type in "pscan.uk" and in the Command column type in "/Applications/pscan.uk/pscanloader". Don't include the quotation marks.
Close the box where you typed in these things.
On the menu at the top select Applications then pscan.uk. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet the first time that you do this.
With Sierra and High Sierra you will encounter a delay for a few minutes the first time that you run the software. It will appear to do nothing at all whilst OSX does something and then pscan.uk appears. The second and subsequent times that it is run this does not happen.

It is recommended to run pscanloader from the X11 Applications menu rather then directly from Finder.

You cannot change the folder where the license.txt and the pscanmacapp files go, they must be installed into the /Applications/pscan.uk folder. For this reason it seems sensible to also put the pscanloader program into the same folder.

Step 5: Plug in the interface

Plug the interface into your car and into your PC.
Make sure that the interface has a green flashing light.
Run the pscanloader program.
