Afternoon everyone,

Sorry for my first post being a question, but can anyone help with interpreting a couple of values from my ECU data?

I've had a fault with the idle on the car for a while - the ECU stopped controlling the stepper motor, instead fully opening it so the engine just revved high by itself. ECU must have been knackered as I couldn't even read data from it. A second hand ECU ran the engine on about 2 cyclinders. I tried another ECU today, and it now idles perfectly :) So easy to code to the 5AS with the pscan, great investment.

My only problem now is that the revs are lazy to drop back to idle. Rev to about 2.5k and then come off the throttle and it hangs for about half a second, drops to about 1400 and then very slowly recovers back to 950 (engine warm).

Is there anything obviously wrong in the data below (first image at idle, second just after revving and releasing pedal).

I'm not sure what idle error means, but it doesn't look good?

I'm assuming you have an MGF, if so then the problem is probably a mechanical rather than a control issue.
Have you got the plastic 48mm throttle body? If so these are crap and need replacing with an Alloy one, this should eliminate your problem...... while your at it, upsize it to a 52mm one, drivabilty will be improved.

Sorry, some basic info would have been useful!

Car is a 1998 Coupe, 1.6 K series.

It is indeed the plastic throttle body, I'm sure I've got another one in the garage so I'll swap them over to see if there is any difference. Will keep my eye out for an alloy one too.

Can anyone shed any light on what the idle error line means, and what it should display?

It looks like there is a bug with the "idle error" in pscan.
I need to look into that.

Ah ok, well that's good news!

I was going to plug into the 75 later and see if that showed the same error.

Should throttle angle display 0 when off the pedal, or is 5degrees the smallest value?

If you are using a windows pc, then if you run pscan in a maximum window (- it makes it easier) , then on the keyboard press the function key and a key labelled PRT SC ( which is for print screen) then this copies the contents of the screen to the windows clipboard, then go to an application like word and paste the clipboard in, you should get the pscan info into word. then you can resize and save/print it.

I remember now. This function is faulty on my old laptop, it just mutes the sound for some reason. Tried it on my new laptop and it works ok.

OK! So I have now got a screenshot of my live data but I don't know how to download this onto this forum as the ones shown above.
Tried all sorts of things.
Can someone please give me a teach-in please?

Looked on FAQ and it appears that you need to obtain the approval of a Senior Prefect before you can download things such as my live data screenshot from which I was hoping to get some constructive advice.
Don't think I'll bother.
