Hello 'pscan'

Firstly I've tried to find this topic or similar without success, so apologies if it's buried somewhere already :)

Is it possible (or was it ever possible) to buy scanners or even cables to allow scanning of this model and engine? I've tried so many searches and still am not sure if this model year ever actually had a diagnostic connection point and if so what type? I know it's old by comparison but hoping to at least find out what can still be purchased. My need is to be able to remove a fault code (SRS, caused by an errant mechanic who left the ignition keys in whilst renewing the battery). If i can't fix, the the car cannot be legally driven..you know the story :D

Any info. or suggestions will be of value

Regards

Michael

Michael,
i had a 827 hatchback. the fault codes are via pulsing light on the ECU under the drivers seat. long pulses for 10 units short ones for single units. then read off the list. If you do not have a list I could probably dig them out from my old records.

to clear the fault Fuse S under the bonnet be removed for a period of time.
This may also clear the SRS once the circuits are enabled.
Hope this helps

My understanding is that the 827 has the Honda engine and PGM-Fi ECU. This has a special connector for engine diagnostics. We have not yet looked at developing the PGM-Fi protocol, primarily as we don't have access to car with this ECU.

Later 825s came with MEM2J engine ECU and the 16 pin connector for this is in the passenger footwell area where the console meets the "transmission tunnel" (yes I know it's front wheel drive so there's no transmission in there). The MEMS2J ECU should work with pscan.

There were two variants of SRS/airbag ECU. We have one of these in the lab but we haven't gotten around to trying it out as there are so few of these cars around now.

Maybe it would be worth doing now.

Thank you 'pscan' and others. I'm not sure how many 827 owners there are or if they will be around - even if there is a slow gradual interest in this older model. i think too many have been broken by now.

I managed to locate a local (to me) mechanic who was rusty with the knowledge as he hadn't seen one in 10 years but it seems to be that it has a 4 pin connector for diagnostics, however it can be analysed by manual methods. My car is going in for a few days next week. My issue is to replace the SRS module and then remove the code. i'll update with any useful info. if it helps

Regards

Michael

Is this four pin connector for the engine ECU or airbag ECU?
My understanding is that the PGMFi engine ECU has a four pin diagnostic plug and that this is something that a computer could communicate with if we developed it.

Hi I'll find out next Thursday when I collect the car and will post whatever I find out - the car is yet to be fixed so he may be removing the fault code manually

I'd found 2 documents to show the the mechanic and after some checking different manuals and wiring he came back with the response that it's a 4 pin plug. these are the doc's I had found, one of which is a PDF file by a company called 'Draper' -still going but this is an old document:

Hi 'pscan'. My car is still with the mechanic, all due to him being overloaded with work. He has sais that it will be fixed and he will be using the correct diagnostic equipment he's got back - it was donated to a local Rover club. Is there anything you would like me to ask him when eventually he finishes this? i know you're looking for a car to test this on but I might be able to find out some details, even minor ones..
