Note that some MEMS1.6 ECUs appear to permanently accept tuning changes, however others will reset back to default upon power cycle.
An MKC10117 ECU from an 820 Turbo did not retain tuning inputs after power cycling.
An MKC101610 ECU from a Rover 214 did retain tuning changes following a power cycle.

NB: This ECU usually uses a Rover 3 pin plug, which requires a special adaptor cable.
Note that this ECU will normally report error codes for sensors that are not fitted to the vehicle. For example, ambient air temperature sensors are typically not fitted and so associated error codes may be ignored.
The ECU will also report strange results or report 'Invalid Value' in live data for sensors that are not fitted.
